President's Message

Our third annual Orchid Festival is now on the pages of history, and despite a somewhat lower attendance (or so it seemed) and a few bugs (not the ones on the plants, of which we hope there weren't any!), it was another great success. I'll leave the official recap to our Festival chairman (and newsletter editor, coincidentally), and use the rest of this space to thank everyone who contributed time, materiel, and/or money to help make our festival a success and put our best foot forward. As usual, I'll not name anyone specifically because a) the list would be a long one and b) I'd risk overlooking some hardworking member.

My first term as your president is drawing to a close, as our upcoming meeting will feature annual election of officers. We hope you can all be there to participate. Our nominating committee has nominated a fine slate of candidates (except for the presidential candidate, about whom I'll not pass judgement). Nevertheless, remember that nominations can still be made. Please don't hesitate to make another nomination for any office if you know someone (including yourself) who would like to have a bigger role in the operation of your society.

By the time you read this, we'll have had another board meeting, at which time the date for our annual summer picnic will be set. Also, we may have another summer get-together, possibly to stalk the wild orchid. Watch these pages, and come to the May 9th meeting (remember, that's a Saturday) to find out about this Summer's goings on. See you all there.

HARRY WINTER
