Ann Arbor Orchid Society
Ribbon Winners from the Greater Lansing Orchid Society Show
November 30, 1997

1997 GLOS Show Crew

Our exhibit consisted of 93 orchids in a 100 square foot display. Lynn O'Shaughnessy built a five-foot tall, wooden "tower" of circles as a base for the exhibit, giving us some much needed height to our display, with additional circular areas surrounding the main tower. For those who did not get to see our exhibit, we will have some pictures by the March meeting, and on our web page. Thanks to Lynn for her carpentry and design skills. Thanks also go to those who helped Lynn set up the display: Diana Borel, Paige Hartman, Darlene Drury, Wendy Frisch, Chuck Zill, John Lewis, Neal Foster, Connie Bailie, and Maria & Glenn Lehr. The take-down crew consisted of Mary Hoverstein, Jan Turner, Dennis Moser, Dottie & Harry Winter, Chuck Zill, Neal, John and Lynn. Thanks also to GLOS for hosting such a fine show.

1997 GLOS Show Results

The Ann Arbor Orchid Society tied for first place with GLOS in Society Exhibits over 50 square feet in size, and also won the People's Choice Trophy for favorite exhibit by the general public, by ONE vote over the Greater Cincinnati Orchid Society.

Lynn O'Shaughnessy received a first place ribbon for her photograph of a Comparettia speciosa out of 11 entries, and a second place ribbon for her painting of Cypripedium calceolus out of 18 entries. Wendy Frisch and Chuck Zill also contributed orchids, and while they did not receive any ribbons, the orchids did help with the overall effect of our display. With 23 exhibits, there was a lot of competition at this show. Jack Brechtelsbauer of Lansing won Best of Show with a 3 foot wide Encyclia ciliare, which also received a CCM/AOS at the show, with 220 flowers.
