General Business Meeting
5/10/97

The meeting was called to order by Connie Bailie at 4:13 PM on Saturday 5/10/97.
The minutes for the meetings held on 3/09/97 were accepted as published in the April
1997 newsletter.
President: Connie thanked the membership for the support she has received over the
past two years of her presidency.
Vice President: No report.
Secretary: No report.
Treasurer: The current balance of the AAOS account is $2097. Nick also informed the
membership that a large number of checks were deposited, for those that had outstanding
checks.
Study Group: The study group will be discussing Michigan Native Orchids at the June
12 meeting. A field trip to see native orchids is planned for this meeting. The July
13 meeting will cover Oncidiums.
Program: Alex Challis informed the membership that the October 1997 meeting has been
changed to Saturday October 18. Andrea Niessen from Columbia will be the speaker
discussing native Columbian orchids. She will also be speaking at GLOS and MOS on
that weekend.
Neal Foster: As the AOS representative for AAOS, Neal has received many catalogs
from growers all over the country. He has added them to the library so that they
can be examined and checked out by members.
As the Mid-America representative, he also received newsletters for all members.
These were made available to everyone at the host table.
Cranbrook Gardens: The 25th annual spring plant sale (which includes orchids) is
being held at Cranbrook Gardens on May 14 and 15 from 10 - 5. They also have trilliums.
Wildflower Day: Sunday, May 11, is wildflower day at MBG. Unusual Michigan wild flowers
is the topic of Dr. Wagner's talk at 1:00PM. Also wildflower plants are being sold
and many other activities are planned.
Elections: Connie stepped down as president and turned the podium over to John Lewis
to conduct the elections for the 1997 officers.
President: Harry Winter was nominated for President and elected without opposition.
Vice President: Dennis Moser was nominated by the nominating committee. Glenn Lehr
was nominated by Jan Turner. Dennis Moser declined the nomination to allow Glen Lehr
to run uncontested. After review of the by-laws, Harry Winter pointed out that Glen
could not run for office because he was a director on the board. Glen stepped down
as director to accept the nomination. Glen was elected.
Secretary: Dianna Borel was nominated and elected as secretary.
Treasurer: Bill Neuroth was elected as treasurer.
Director - Lynn O'Shaughnessy was reelected as director.
Following the elections, Harry Winter took the podium as President. He asked the
membership to give a hand to all outgoing officers and acknowledged Connie's contribution
as President.
The annual business meeting adjourned at 4:33 PM.
