I am very proud to announce that the Ann Arbor Orchid
Society has finalized a fiscal plan for 1996. Since the August board meeting we have worked
diligently on a budget for 1996. As a member you should not notice any changes in how the
AAOS functions. In fact, our figures closely mirror last year's financial record with one exception
- the 1996 AAOS orchid show. Please notice that the show, for all intents and purposes, will
break even.
This is the first year that the AAOS has had a budget plan. Our first three years gave us a chance to watch how our spending needs evolved. However, it is in our best interest at this time to put together spending guidelines. Revamping of allocations are to be expected each year as the budget is revisited. As the society grows and evolves, so will our spending allocations. Remember that the budget should reflect the needs of our society. That's why it's so very important that all members evaluate the budget and assess the spending allocations in order to give suggestions and counsel to the board.
Also I wish to announce that a nomination committee has been appointed and the following AAOS members have accepted the responsibility of selecting the next slate of board members. They are: Chuck Zill, Ruth Kittle and Don Fishel. Please contact them if you want to be considered for nomination or if you would like to suggest someone be nominated. They have until March to put together their slate of nominees. Nominations will be also be accepted from the floor during the March meeting (Because of our orchid show, there will not be a regular April meeting). The actual vote takes place during the May meeting. Like the budget, the board should reflect the membership. Please take time to participate in this important procedure. See you at the January meeting (it should prove to be very interesting indeed) and many wishes to you all for a Happy New Orchid Growing Year!--Connie Bailie
