SVOS SHOW REPORT

On the Friday after Thanksgiving, several AAOS members set up a display at the Saginaw Valley Orchid Society's Annual Orchid Show at the Northwood Institute in Midland, MI. Our 50-square-foot display (twice as big as last year's) contained more than 40 orchid plants. Lynn O'Shaugnessy, John Lewis, Connie Bailie, Alex Challis, Barb Larime, Dottie and Harry Winter, Neal Foster, and Glenn Lehr helped variously by setting up, taking down, transporting plants, and/or loaning plants for the AAOS display. John Lewis et al. transported plants to Lynn's house in Howell, and Lynn and the setup crew drove to Midland with the plants in Lynn's RV on Friday morning so that setup in Midland was completed as early as possible. We were better prepared for setting up a display at this show than we ever have been before. Lynn printed out, with her PC, attractive plant labels for each orchid plant in the display, and John prepared all the registration tags prior to the show. Although an unexpected problem with the RV's transmission necessitated some changes in plans for Sunday's takedown, everything worked out all right. Many thanks to all who helped or participated.

Besides the 2 first- and 1 third-place ribbons that his plants won in the GLOS exhibit, Glenn Lehr's plants in the AAOS display took 5 blue ribbons - Angraecum sesquipedale, Lycaste xytriophora, Mormodes buccinator, Phalaenopsis (Golden Buddha #1 x Roseheart Frankie's Gemstone'), and Phal. (Taipei Gold x Deventeriana Treva'); and 3 red ribbons - Vanda Chursi Narattrugsa x Ascocenda Hilo Belle, Calanthes vestita, and Phal. (venosa Zuma Bay' x venosa Zuma Doll').

Lynn O'Shaughnessy won a third-place ribbon with her Oncidium Sharry Baby Sweet Fragrance' AM/AOS.
